Kay Barnes named Panhellenic Woman of the Year Kay Barnes named Panhellenic Woman of the Year Kay Barnes named Panhellenic Woman of the Year

Dear Kappa Sisters,

I am very excited to have been asked to serve as your Alumnae President for this second year. It is truly a very humbling responsibility to represent this Kansas City organization. I had the privilege to attend Kappa National Convention this summer, along with Ann Colston, and many other Kansas City women.

You’ll be proud to know that MU (Theta chapter) received the Most Outstanding Chapter of the Year award as well as an honorable mention for academic excellence! KSU (Gamma Alpha) won the House Board Award and Honorable mention for Recruitment.

Kansas City Alumnae Association came home with the Patsy Bredwich Levang Philanthropy Award, the Sally Moore Nitschke Lifelong Education Award and the McNaboe Commitment Regional and Finalist Awards as well as Honorable mention awards of the Rose McGill Magazine and Rheva Ott Schroyck Awards! We were also honored at the Foundation breakfast as one of the top four associations to donate to the Kappa Foundation. WOW! It was an amazing thrill to accept all those awards. I will have all the awards to share with you at the first meeting in September. At convention Barbara Moriarty and Laurie Montague coordinated the Blue Owl Boutique. We thank them for their tireless efforts to run this shop throughout the entire convention!

The new officers have been working very hard to plan and implement many types of programs and events for this year. A large amount of behind the scenes work has already occurred — the membership committee preparing the blue book, Heather Holder, first vice president, planning all the programs and activities, the second vice presidents finding the homes and hostesses for the Kappa Homes Tour. Many thanks are due to Kendra Eason, Marty Shields, Wendi Coffman, Ann Colston and Emily Haake for the dues collection and bluebook and galley organization.

The Kappa Actives party was held on July 10th at my home. Cindy Couch and Lucinda Powell co-chaired this wonderful summer party. It was a great evening to sit by the pool with Kappa actives and their moms and some of our alum board. Thanks to Cindy and Lucinda for organizing this fun evening.

The Kappa Night Owls, under the leadership of Lindsey Horner and Molly Englehard have met throughout this summer at various restaurants throughout the city. They have many great activities planned throughout the year for the Night Owl group
.
The Holiday House Tour Chairmen Ann Peterson-Barrow, Angie Fotopoulos and Jeannie Moxley have been very hard at work since last spring. They organized a fabulous kick-off party for the Tour board that was held at Laurie Montague’s home and featured an amazing saxophonist whom you will hear again at the Patrons Party.

A few other activities that are planned for this fall include the Founders Day Luncheon on Friday, October 17, a Holiday Tasting Party on Tuesday, November 11th, when members bring a favorite holiday treat and share recipes, and the Kappa Homes Tour on December 2nd and 3rd.

Our first Association meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16th at Indian Hills Country Club. See details on page 1. RSVP’s will be important so that the food and drinks can be ordered correctly. Please respond to Heather Holder at 913-652-9176 or heather.holder@sbcglobal.net . She would like to have a head count by Sept. 12th.

Please send in your dues, if you have not done so, and get involved in our fabulous Kansas City Alum Association! As you can see our Association is very alive and well in Kansas City!

Love and Loyally,
Jennifer Fales
