For the third year in a row, the Kansas City Kappas went to Operation Breakthrough to share our love for children and reading with a couple of Preschool Classes. On February 23rd, fourteen of us went to Operation Breakthrough, 3039 Troost, Kansas City, Mo, a beautiful care facility for over 600 children living in poverty. Kappa Kappa Gamma adopted Reading Is Fundamental, as its partner in philanthropy. RIF’s priority is to serve at-risk children and families through literacy programs that motivate youth to read. We went into the classrooms and read a big book, The Little Engine That Could, read and sang ABC Sing With Me, helped the children make their own conductor hats, had a snack, and gave each child a bag with the two books we read and an animal finger puppet. Then each
child selected another book to put in the bag. We all had a fantastic time and the smiles on the children’s faces were priceless. Special thanks to all of you who donated books, financial support, and who donated your time and talents with these wonderful children!
