About RIF: Our vision is a literate America with children obtaining access to books and discovering the joys and value of reading. Our mission is to motivate young children to read by working with children, their parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of everyday life.• Founded in 1966—oldest and largest children and family literacy nonprofit in U.S.
• Highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8
• Programs and volunteers in every state and U.S. territory
Kansas City Alumnae Association’s Signature Event:Theme: “Fall In Love with Reading”
When: Takes place in February
Where: Operation Breakthrough 3039 Troost
Activity: We spent two hours with the children reading a book, doing an activity (art project or decorate cookies, etc) and then give each child a book and bookmark for them to bring home. We also want to send a letter home to the parents with some ideas for reading activities they can do at home. We want to bridge the gap of education at school and in the home.
